Please see my experience below
All was above expectations and congrats to the Ambulance Man and lady.
Made really welcome, felt at home, safe and secure and nothing was to much trouble.
I went to A&E with chest pains on Friday 6th October. Initially, I had a positive experience, as I immediately saw a doctor and got transferred to the emergency section of A&E. I had blood tests and an X-ray immediately.
The issues started when I was transferred to SDEC. There was no communication about my treatment, whenever I asked what was the next step, I was ignored. I was on a drip for about 2 hours and I didn’t know if I was going home or being referred for more tests. There were other patients moaning with pain, who were not treated with basic humanity or acknowledgment. Patients are only acknowledged when blood pressure and temperature is checked. Most nurses don’t introduce themselves or even make eye contact. It makes you feel like a piece of meat.
I had a CT scan after 14 hours of waiting. I was told one of my blood tests had an elevated D Dimer. Then I took another blood test and told there was an error and it couldn’t be used. I was reassured that the concerning blood test was probably wrong because my CT scan was fine. I wasn’t convinced so I asked for another clarifying blood test. I was told to go home and I would get a phone call with the result of the new blood test. I missed the call and called back but was told that they don’t give results over the phone, when the doctor literally told me that he would give me the results over the phone. I was told to get my results from my GP but the GP never received any results.
Summary of issues:
- long waiting time to get lab results
- no communication of the process/next steps
- nurses talking loudly about other patients
- little respect or dignity
- error in my blood test that added more waiting time
The only nurse that treated me well was a bank nurse called Kelly. She was very good. The other nurses showed no care at all.
I went there they did some investigation,
Gave me intravenous antibiotics.
My urine started flowing again, I went home.
The staff treated me very well and we're very informative, but there was long delays in my care. I had a head CT scan taken and the IT system had broken down meaning there was a delay in the report but this information had not been relayed to me and we had to wait a few hours before we were told about this.
Waited 10+ hours to be seen by an A&E doctor. DID NOT EVEN see a doctor. They did a blood test, no result was given, they gave me fluids and took a urine sample and told to go home. Appalling is not even the word to describe my experience. Some staff were nice but not knowledge and other staff just pure rude. I cannot emphasise how I waited over 10 plus hours to just be given fluids and told to go home!!!!
