Review of King George’s - Accident & Emergency

The nurses and doctors and even the security staff were incredible from the moment I arrived they realised how poorly I was and went above and beyond to help even though they were incredibly busy and obviously short staffed

Suggested improvements
There was one nurse called Mary that despite being told to give me morphine for the pain she made me wait 5 hours before administering it

Worst experience so far. I had to wait for more than 6 hours to be looked after by the doctor. Also, I had a cannula inserted in my hand for no obvious reasons the entire time which was quite painful. The doctor was in a hurry and didn't bother to check my previous records. I was given nothing to treat my pulse rate which was above 115 bpm the entire time I was there and it was being monitored for about 3 4 times. I will never recommend it to anyone. The nurse who took out my cannula did it in a rush that I started to bleed and the blood went down on the floor and on my clothes. Only after that she came back to put bandage over me. Horrible experience.

Suggested improvements
The staff should be trained well enough to manage the work load and assign more people on the duty so that processes can be made more smoother.

The experience and treatment we had in King George A&E was completely unacceptable and despicable. My Nan spent over 10 hours on a corridor bed - she wasn’t moved onto a hospital bed until it was raised. She was left in the corridor for over 3 hours, with drunks and police escorts seen before her. She was given a broom cupboard of a room only after we had to ask for help to take her to the loo - despite the doctor saying she needed to give a urine sample. This sample was lost. The first doctor who saw my Nan couldn’t be bothered to listen or read any notes - he kept saying she had a fall when this wasn’t what happened. She was left in the room, I had to keep asking for someone to come and see my Nan. Her blood pressure was low on admittance, it took 6.5 hours for a drip to be administered. I had to reattach this drip myself when it was removed after moving my Nan. When the day nurses came on, they was disgustingly rude. I asked to speak to the matron about their attitude and foul language and was denied. The worst part was how they treated my Nan as an inconvenience for needing to use the loo - she was not given the human right to use the loo. I had to keep asking and asking - resulting in one nurse screaming at me from across a bay. I should not have to face abuse from a nurse about asking to use the loo when it was 30 minutes into asking. The nurse did not allow my Nan to use a commode as she couldn’t be bothered to clean it - she wheeled my Nan in a unsafe manner to the public loos in reception and forced her to use the disabled loo. This is disgusting and I hope no one else receives the treatment we did.

Suggested improvements
Improve the standard of care to elderly Actually bother to check in on patients Do not use abusive language and raise voice at relatives Read notes and do not assume

I was admitted at 02:40 30 September for blood tests which were taken at 03:05 I saw a doctor at about 11:00 who sent me got a chest X-ray and ultra scan. I had been sitting in reception for many hours with the smell of solvent (men were replacing the flooring in the toilets) and later on a gentleman know to staff as Philip who I looked to be a street person who smelt appalling. My head was pounding and I self sick and exhausted. Later in the afternoon the doctor told me I needed a ct scan which I had around5:30 I think. Around 20:30 I was taken to some relaxing chairs where I fell asleep around 11:45 I saw another doctor who diagnosed an inflamed gallbladder I was then give sickness meds antibiotics and some saline eventually being discharged at 02:45 on 1st October

I was left with breathing problem in the waiting area I told them I had been sent by my GP because I suffer with COPD and Asthma after 4 hours they gave me 2 nebulisers and steroids through divine at 8 o’clock roughly 4 hours later I was given another 2 nebulisers and another steroid injection, told to go to my GP and try and get them to Ventolin nebulisers which I could not get from my GP. I would definitely not go back to King Georges as I feel that I suffered with my breathing and nobody did anything for four hours. All I can say is thank you very much

Suggested improvements
They could’ve kept me updated with my condition instead of taking my temperature and asking me if I had any pain to this I would say no several times but I didn’t wanna listen. I just needed a nebuliser to help me breathe

Dr divya in king George in the majors unit was absolutely disgraceful in the way she spoke to me. Instead of being polite and approachable, she was abrupt, short and difficult to communicate with. I simply kindly asked for a medical update and she repeatedly told me she’s busy and that I should ask my mother for an update, I understood she’s busy the first moment she said it and I explained that’s ok, but she continued to repeat “I am busy I have no time , I will send someone when I can” to later barge into the bay and repeat that she’s busy and went on to providing an update. If she was very busy how did she find time to barge in and explain in an abrupt tone? She obviously realised she was rude. I told her how I felt and said there was no need to be short, I appreciate that she’s working in a busy setting. Soon after I had left my mother (patient) she spoke to my mother and complained stating she was not rude. Putting my mum under stress.

Suggested improvements
Dr Divya works in a healthcare setting if she is not concerned about the way she speaks to caregivers of patients who are acutely unwell, she’s in the wrong industry. She could have simply said .. sorry I am busy however I will find someone as soon as I can. Instead of disregarding my request and telling me to ask my mother- who may not have understood all the medical terminology used during the update.
