I think our local hospital is second to none I know you can’t please everyone in this world but I must say I’ve been round the world several times and spent quite a lot of time in hospitals due to my love of adventure and can honestly say furness general are way ahead of 99% of them So please hold your heads high and thanks for all your care and kindness Yours gratefully Sean Readett

I was admitted to a and e in the early hours of 5th October whilst celebrating my 60th birthday near grange over sands with my friend, I am from Leeds, I have little or no memory of this event, all i know is that i was transferred to icu and put on life support for two weeks where upon the consultants, nurses, doctors, care assistants etc did there very very best for me and ultimately kept me alive and I recovered and I am at home now well enough to express my heartfelt gratitude to all concerned in helping back to the land of the living. This must have been so hard for them as i was fighting against them all the time due to halluciations believing they were out to kill me in my drug addled mind. I am so sorry to all of you for making caring for me so difficult. I see now how truly wonderful you all are and thank you so much for your patience and care, and helping me through such a very frightening time and giving me the chance to see my family again. Thank you everyone in a&e, icu, acute medical and ward 7 words can not express how grateful I feel to have been in your care. Big hug to all of you, and an extra one to Mel, who stopped me from trying to escape time after time. My love to you all xx you are angels thank you.

I was seen by consultant Thiru Siva in the ENT department regarding acid reflux into my throat from the stomach. He explained the options for treatment and recommended a change in medication which at the moment is working well. I was kept waiting for approx. 45 minutes from the scheduled appointment time but this was no problem as I realise the hospital is under great patient pressure at the moment, Mr Siva was very helpful and I was 100% happy with the service provided

I've heard a few not so nice reports about hospitals in general, however, Furness General Hospital has looked after me the past 18 months, while I'm recovering from lung cancer, and the ongoing health issues, and I have nothing but praise for every member of the staff from the ground up. Everyone I have come in contact with have been polite, friendly, informative, and professional.

The hospital as a whole seemed clean and functional. The nurses were quite poor on shift, I had to request pain meds when they were due each 6 hours otherwise I would miss them. They did not seem to listen to my pain meds and took me from tramadol one minute to paracetamol the next. At one point I had to explain that I was in pain, and that I either needed something stronger or that I would have to leave and go to purchase something stronger at the pharmacy! The doctor prescribed me pain meds to go home with, but the nurse did not give me the prescription. In the end after 5 days in agony at home I called 111 and was seen out of hours in a different hospital where I was prescribed morphine. The surgeon was excellent and this review in no way represents him or his staff, its just a shame the ward let him down with the after care

Review of FGH Patient Progression Unit written by a patient
18th October 2018

My experience of PPU was very positive. Two nurses in particular were extremely good, Katie and one of the night staff, Helen I think her name was. She was on nights 1st and 2nd October. Only area of concern was that I had an open wound after major surgery and there was another patient in the unit who had MRSA. Could there have been a risk of infection given I had an open wound. Otherwise a well recommended unit with caring team of nurses. It does highlight to me how under resourced, especially at night, FGH is as my unit had a patient with a tracioctomy and only 1 nurse to manage 4 patients.
