I have had several stays at FGH & the level of care I have received has been exemplary. I have two concerns that make me uncomfortable & kind of dread a further stay. Levels of dementia patients are throughout the hospital and are treated (quite rightly) alongside all patients. Overworked nurses & Health Support Workers are already stretched to their limits and sometimes a confused patient may display anxiety or troubled issues & on more than one occasion I have been involved in policing until help arrives. Nothing major, but enough that help is needed quicker than someone who needs their water filling up. My next is the food. Unfortunately - not in its finest hour. Portions are smaller & continue to decrease in size. Overcooked & undercooked is something I have got used to. I live on my own so I don't get visitors, I find it difficult to get supplement food like bread, fruit, juice to keep my hunger at bay. One cooked meal at lunch time on Saturday & Sunday with a sandwich at teatime. Going 24 hours without something substantial is difficult for me. Yes, you can ask for a sandwich thru the night but that depends on what stock was left from lunch or dinner. I'm not a big eater, it upsets me to ask nurses or health support workers to ask for a larger portion or pointing out that something is missing from my plate.
