Review of Emergency Department A&E - Doncaster Royal Infirmary
12th June 2024

Overcrowded waiting room and no action at all from staff, not keeping people well informed about wait times. I was left sat there for hours not being able to breathe properly, only to be told "I have checked you airways and I am not concerned"

Suggested improvements
Keep people informed Make sure there is enough resource on the ground to process people quickly (national issue) Clean up the toilets and waiting areas as very dirty

Review of Adult Speech and Language Therapy - Doncaster Royal Infirmary

Actually it was Excellent. I don't think it could have been any better. I saw Katie Dawber who had ensured that my navigation to the dept/appt was as stress free as possible. That's such a big help. She had written information for me to take away. Katie talked me through all of it and so much more. Not once did she need to search the information to find what she needed because she clearly knows her subject completely. Also, she asked pertinent questions and took time and care to answer my questions. I came away feeling that I understand my problem and how to handle it but if necessary, there is a point of contact to go to. I am pleased that the service will liaise with my GP as my overall health issues are complex, there are many of them and they are seriously life changing and limiting. Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from the speech therapist in due course.

Nothing. It was perfect as far as I'm concerned. This was also helped by really cheerful staff throughout the hospital helping with signposting to the correct area and offering help if needed. I didn't ask for help once as someone spotted me and came to offer assistance. Brilliant!!

Review of Orthotics - Doncaster Royal Infirmary
12th June 2024

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Shelley, the orthotist, is very professional and always listens to my needs to provide the best possible service.

Suggested improvements
Nothing springs to mind regarding the recent appointment. The drop-in service trialled a few years ago, for quick repairs was a vert good idea. It's a pity that was discontinued. The quality of work by your outside suppliers is not always the best and could be improved a lot. This is in relation to orthotic devices and footwear.

The wait was about 2 hours and the nurse (Gabriela) who treated me was very kind and provided a thorough explanation.

Suggested improvements
My blood results were not ready/available for my examination which was disappointing for both myself and the nurse.

Staff stretched to effectively deal with all the problems in A&E. There was a problem with ICE whatever that means which delayed my wife’s CT scan by around 4 hours and caused her additional un-required pain. The main bugbear is with the security staff. One member spent a good 45 mins to an hour chatting to the nurses about holidays and stuff distracting them from their jobs and also complained about his manager ‘micro-managing’ him even though he displayed that if he wasn’t supervised at all times he was reluctant to do his job properly. The stuff didn’t tell him to go do some security work elsewhere either they engaged the whole time he was there. Basic requests for a straw from the nurses so my wife could have a drink we’re also met with a helpful reply but never materialised, I had to find another member of staff an hour later to get me one which took seconds.

Suggested improvements
Aim to move patients to the required ward and free up staff and beds in an allocated number of hours. We’ve been here over 10 hours in A&E now which is nothing short of a horror movie.

Was sent over to DRI from Bassetlaw with a letter of referral. Currently on my almost 3rd hour of sat waiting for a doctor. Weve had her obs done, which were done at Bassetlaw and been sat waiting for an update. Was sat in the waiting area with my partner for probably over an hour without issue and then a student nurse came and told us only 1 parent was allowed, whilst others had 2 parents with them...and the much smaller children's waiting room at bassetlaw hospital doesn't require only one parent per child. As a parent who suffers from anxiety, I cannot sit with my child alone as my anxiety kicks in, but if I'm away from her whilst she's poorly, my anxiety kicks in, so both parents in our situation is essential. Very disappointed.

Suggested improvements
Speed of service, the manners of your student nurses and your policies on the number of parents permitted within waiting areas.

Although we had a very positive experience with the doctor(we believe her name was Dr Francis) however staff nurses was very rude and unprofessional! Is it acceptable to discharge a child who tried numerous times to strangle herself and suffocate themselves, just because we didn't come in for this reason?! The reason we did come in was due to a child not eating or drinking for several days and was worried about vacent episodes. A blood test was due to be had but then was later told she was 'medically fit' and there was nothing they could do about this and said we need to take her home and contact another kind of service. We also did stress that we had great difficulty getting her here and that we would struggle getting her to leave the building, this did not seem to phase the staff. Also whilst being left in a side room we then had a rude nurse come in and slammed the door stating 'I'm just shutting this door' the room was hot and there was no windows etc,we feel like we have been let down by the NHS staff and this kind of behaviour is unacceptable!

Suggested improvements
Get more professional kind staff employed please☺️
