The waiting area was unclean and in disrepair. Screens were out of use and look as though they have been for a long time. Flooring tired. Disabled toilet had no paper towels or toilet paper so patients had to walk back and forth with the key and questions. Ladies toilet - bins were overflowing and there were no facilities for sanitary disposal. Nurse tried 4 times to find a vein (4needle sticks) and couldn’t bleed me so then had to wait longer for doctor availability.

Suggested improvements
Please see above to resolve the issues identified. Some things are simple such as loo roll and sanitary disposal bags

I was in a&e 3 days in a row, waiting 5 hours+ each day. To be sent home on the third day with nothing done and just told to monitor him. In the three days I was there because my 16 month old fell off the couch, i was told he had a small fracture and needed a pot, then I was told it was soft tissue damage, then I was told it was none of this and he needed bloods due to infection when he wasn't even unwell.

Suggested improvements
Better communication with staff. More efficiency so people like myself are not in a&e for 3 days with a 16 month old to be told he's fine.

When I finally managed to get seen by a doctor. I felt as if he was under a misconception as to the reason I was actually there. Once I was listened to his whole demeanour changed and the appointment was carried out in a professional manner. I waited again for blood tests, which confirmed a diagnosis. I was then seen by a surgeon who explained that I would be sent home and called back the following day. This did actually happen and the diagnosis confirmed.

Upon my arrival I was ordered to stand in between some barriers, which are set for single file width and you had to squeeze past people already there. There were no clear signs to follow. I was sent to a desk and took a seat there, the receptionist looked up and said she wasn’t ready. I waited in silence until she was ready. She was very abrupt and did not engage. The triage nurse on the reception was also abrupt. I understand that these people are on the front line for long hours and have an awful job, and I think most of them are clearly not coping with their toxic workplace environment. I had resorted to a private gp appointment to avoid attending hospital and putting more stress on the nhs, but was advised that I needed to be seen at A&E that day, which is why I was there. A little courtesy and patience would make their job and patient experience so much better. As mentioned earlier I have attended as a very last resort after spending a considerable amount of money on private consultations and tests to no avail. I sat and endured seven hours in A&E but at least managed to get a diagnosis and start treatment- so credit where credit is due the fantastic NHS ended up trumps.
