The nurse was friendly, helpful, and extremely informative. She made me feel at ease. I don't think you could improve on the care I received today. I am so lucky to have such a caring nurse. Regards.

I entered hospital for a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. The need etc was very well explained and the benefit/risk ratio detailed at a meeting with the surgeon. At this meeting a date for the operation was arranged. My only minor criticism about the whole process from first meeting with the surgeon to operation, was that the dates of the op kept changing and that, between the date changes, there was little information about when a final date could be set. This was unfortunate and caused a lot of problems at work for me, but I appreciate this is a service working to capacity. In addition, it was a difficult time for the surgical team as there were significant personnel changes at the time and this would have put more pressure on the hospital administration and the medical teams, so suspect this was a difficult time for everyone, but for the patient it makes it more stressful. Apart from setting the final date, the process was smooth, though it would be worth notifying the secretarial staff that if the pre-op is only a day or so from the op then the pre-op assessment team are really willing to accommodate a patient under such circumstances, if they arise. The pre-op team are fantastic and so helpful. With regards to the surgery from admission, to op, to post-op, to discharge, I was amazed. Everything was great. There are obviously so many areas that are involved in this process is that it seems unfortunate not to be able to list them all, but this is not possible in such a small space. At all times, I encountered engaging, caring and motivated staff and the level of care was faultless. I would also like to highlight the quality of the surgery I received. The improvement in my quality of life is noticeable already, only 5 weeks after surgery. I cannot fault this at all. So, in summary, although there were some minor logistic issues that are easily rectifiable, for the delivery end of the process, and the aftercare, then I think everyone in the entire chain can be really proud of their efforts and contribution, as well as the quality of the job they do. Many, many thanks for improving my life. I am really grateful and am humbled by the level of expertise and care I experienced.

The care provided by the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital was excellent, but the follow-up visit by ROCS was an extension to this care in answering those other questions you forget to ask when in hospital. Also the visit provides that reassurance you need when you get back to your home environment. From a personal point of view, I would like to see a second ROCS visit, a few days after being back in the home environment.

My experience at the ROH regarding a hip replacement was very positive. Staff were friendly and professional when contacting the helpline I was treated with regard, I appreciated the time Mr. Cooper spent during the initial consultation to explain. The impact of surgery and to answer any questions. This, builds trust and reassurance which is so important. Again Mtg and Mr. Cooper on the morning of my operation made me feel I was in safe hands.
