Review of Royal Orthopaedic Community Service
21st March 2022

I did not expect the high level of aftercare following my replacement hip operation. Every member of the team was so helpful, informative and caring whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism. I am very hard of hearing and they treated me with total understanding and respect. Both myself and my wife , who has been my full time carer during this time, are extremely grateful for the ROC team support during the first few weeks and would highly recommend the Royal Orthopaedic for surgery and post operative care, thank you.

Suggested improvements
Really do not think there is anything to improve.

Was in hospital for hip replacement which was successful, but never saw my consultant all that time!

Suggested improvements
Was given morphine for my pain, while I was in hospital, but was not given any to take home even tho I was discharged on a Saturday afternoon. So I had to wait 36 hours before I could ask my GP for more. Not very sympathetic or helpful!

Our care was excellent, even though at times nurses saw to have been struggling with the tolerance of work. But always cheerful and willing to help. Well done everyone.

Suggested improvements
I feel that elderly people need a bit more care and support in their homes, especially when you are discharged so soon after surgery.

Cannot fault pre surgery, my surgeon who is second to none, operation amazing work on his behalf. Some aspects of aftercare let’s the previous down.... I have been in your hospital many times, over a lot of years, on this and on previous occasions , at times not listened to, they know better, no not always, myself as underlying health conditions discharged when not well, all they could see that I could walk a few steps and nothing else. sent home two days before social services recieved any paperwork as for them to help me on discharge, sent home to be alone and go through hell managing on my own vulnerably on my own, over Christmas and to this day, occupational therapist girl sat on my bed and asked if social services had been informed, she told me that social services had not been informed at all (so that was a mistruth)..as I could wash and dress myself, and they would not help me anyway as I could do these tasks, utter joke! .....so where is the roh care and compassion? On this basis I was very let down by this hospital, and after this I don’t think as if and when If I recover from this surgery and after many years that I will use your hospital again..... I could go on and I will through the proper channels.

Suggested improvements
Listen to the patient, and to the needs of the patients care and vulnerabilities....... It’s a shame as over the years some services and some people have declined ...
