It is always a comfort to know when a medical matter arises you are being looked after by a first class team….. This is always evident at Chesterfield Royal Hospital (ENT get a special mention here).

A&E - the whole set up was well designed, the staff were pleasant, patient and helpful from the person who greeted us and asked if I would mind swapping my mask for one of theirs to the doctor at the end who explained my teenager’s condition and how to deal with it, the staff were unfailingly lovely, helpful and efficient. We were there for under three hours, despite it being very full and busy. My partner was able to wait in the cafe where it was warm rather than have to stay in a cold car and there was plenty of space for parking

My appointment was changed numerous times, although it went very smoothly on the day when I did attend.

Attended A&E this morning - everyone was kind, patient and efficient. I witnessed two occasions where the receptionist had to deal with very difficult people - she was creative and patient with them so that the situations did not escalate. Well done!

whilst an in patient I was acutely ill. During this time I was too poorly to notice some really incomprehensible things .when I was improved to near discharge time I began to see things which I did not like at all. Waiting times for patients who rang for a nurse were extreme .especially when needing pain relief .I was told of an incidence of a 4 hour wait for analgesia .I also had to stagger out of the ward whilst not really well to attract a nurses attention only to find one immediately outside the room .I was doing this for another patient who was so much in pain they could not sit or keep still .the returning nurse was rude abrupt and totally unprofessional. On occasion the ward toilet was left in a disgusting state having been CLEANED! by a domestic not usually on that ward. when I awoke one night having experienced a nightmare and needing help and support of a psychological nature I got no such thing and felt scared to go back to sleep. Really bad .

I arrived at the hospital as an emergency patient suffering from from vomiting and pain caused by problems with my gallbladder. I was initially admitted to Elizabeth ward and then found a bed on Barnes Ward where I remained for the rest of my hospital stay .The total duration of my stay was 15 nights commencing from Friday 20th December 2019 to Saturday 4th January 2020. My stay was quite long so so I feel I was there long enough to get a real insight as to how the ward was ran not only From my perspective but from observations as to how other patients were treated.Firstly it has to be said that it was Christmas time and to be honest I don’t think anyone wants to be in hospital at this time or work through this festive season. So my expectations were not that high. However I could not have been so mistaken my care and that of other patients from my observations were outstanding. I’m not going to pick out anyone in particular for the fabulous care I received because that would be wrong and maybe suggest that the rest of the staff were not has good and the thing that stood out for me was that it was all very much a team effort but you all know who you are and your all marvellous. The ward was so well organised patients were coming and going attending other appointments in the hospital getting scans blood tests , patients were been fed bays constantly cleaned all done with military precision.. I would like to mention my particular care. As I said earlier it was Christmas and I knew there must have been staff shortages throughout the hospital and I did wonder if things would happen at a slower pace but from my personal experience that was not the case. I was visited very shortly after arriving on Barnes Ward by my consultant my hero ❤️He talked to me in depth asked about my history my symptoms how I was feeling he organised blood test scans . He had a plan of action from the start I felt completely at ease with him and totally confident that he was going to do his very best to get me well. The nurses were lovely very approachable chatty nothing was too much trouble even during the night when they had a constant stream of ladies waiting to be taken to the toilet their diligence and patience must have been stretched but I never witnessed anything other than sympathy and encouragement when I say nurses this also refers to the health care workers who do an amazing job and bring a very human side to patients care. Regarding the food although because of my condition I probably didn’t have much of a appetite I was still impressed with the standard it was always served on time was hot and a good choice . I especially appreciated the beverages that were served during the day and I know I said I wouldn’t mention anyone in particular but I have to say what a nice pleasant polite young man Ashlie was. I had my operation on Thursday the 2nd of January my gallbladder was removed and 2 gallstones I think there was other complications and they were also addressed at that time I was discharged on Saturday the 4th January.regarding the discharge lounge again I was very impressed with the Organization I was offered beverages and a snack while I was waiting for my medication and discharge letter the staff were very pleasant and kept the room clean the only room for improvement I could see is a couple of reclining chairs would have been good. I am now at home recovering and hope to be back at work shortly I’m feeling great at the moment and want to thank everyone at the Royal Hospital for the terrific job you do Kindest regards Mrs Lynn Booth
