I was a patient here under the care of Dr Jonathan Shapero from 2014 until 2018, and whilst not all experiences were of a positive note, I can say that I would not be here today writing this if it was not for the care, and support that many (not all) of the staff showed me here. From the Consultant lead psychologist to the eventual ward manager, many great working rapports and bonds were formed, and they eventually managed to understand my complex needs, and would activly work with me to find solutions to issues, ways of helping me, and ways to engage with my likes, esp that of gardening and woodworking. Would I reccomend this hospital, yes and no. Yes when you have the correct staff, HCA's and other team members willing to help you and make a success of your time there, but also no in other respects, especially when it comes to management understanding the needs of the patients within, and not taking lead from the ward staff that work with you every day. It is like one hand does not also know (or care) what the other is doing.

Whatever you do, do not allow your loved one to be placed in this hospital- Independent doctors and social workers deemed it appropriate that my daughter be moved closer to home and to more appropriate support outside of hospital, however the clinician overseeing her care has ignored their recommendations and that of the judges at a formal tribunal informing my daughter that she is going to relapse, and this without any grounds or evidence to support this statement. The same doctor took away my daughters once a month home leave away from her less than 24 before she was due to take it. - he knew the devastating effect this would have on my daughter but went ahead anyway -a cruel and wicked act. The doctors and staff should be held accountable for their failings - Nothing positive comes out of this hospital in fact they set up their patients to fail. The cost to the NHS - a £1,000 per day per patient ! The CQC report from February of this year is full of concerns and things that CL need to improve on and yet they deem it as “good” clearly the CQC have got this wrong from the reviews written here. Sadly the CQC never talk to Carers or parents to find out the truth about what really goes on behind closed doors !!

This place is absolutely appalling from the clinical director down to the ward staff the way they treat the patients is absolutely disgusting as I witnessed it for myself whilst I was on the phone to my partner who was currently there. I raised concerns on many occasions but my concerns were just being ignored to the point where emails were not being returned phone calls were being ignored. My partner received no treatment medication for three days as they forgot to order it.. The staff themselves have no idea about the medication and I really don’t think they are qualified enough to be looking after vulnerable adults. The care in that hospital is despicable, there is no interaction with any patience. My partner currently has an abscess in his tooth and has done for the last two months and still hasn’t seen the dentist, and every time I call or email I’m just being ignored. Something really has to be done about this hospital and the staff that are running it before more people lose their lives. And now he has been told three days before his brothers funeral that he is unable to go. Disgraceful

I am a mother of a young woman placed in Chadwick Lodge nearly 2 years sago. It is dreadful place with major problems starting right at the top with Its clinicians right down to the staff working on the wards. The doctors retain patients without justification so that this privately owned company, paid for by the Tax Paid can continue to profit from the misery they dish out everyday to their residents. 2 young people have died here recently but still nothing is done and the CQC ignore Carer’s and family concerns. There should be a full investigation into the actions of its doctors and staff and the in humane way the residents are being treated. The hospital policies change daily and staff make up the rules as they go along. No attempt is made to make visiting loved ones welcome and no refreshment offered even if you have travelled many hours. The staff are rude and ignorant and show no empathy to either patient or relative. SOMETHING NEEDS DOING AND ACTION TAKEN BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE DIES

I was at Chadwick Lodge 27/8/2013 - 17/10/2013. I was sent to this hospital from one in York because I was self-harming very seriously, and I was on a section 3, so I was sent here because its a more secure service. The food was excellent. The staff were very understanding, supportive and helpful. I would have to say my keyworker was the best I have ever had in any psychiatric hospital, so far. My Keyworker, the staff and the Psychiatrist completely believed in me, so I was off section by the 17/10/2013 and on my way home (I didn't self-harm once during my stay). I know this wouldn't have happened anywhere else, Dr Jonathan Shapero Psychiatrist was very professional, understanding and understood my case completely. I cannot speak highly enough about this hospital. Thank you for helping me.
