Review of CMHT Grand Union

This review is based on stuart he is a great support worker and is easy to speak to, he is always there to help when I’ve asked for anything and always attends to my needs he lets me know what time my appointments are and also when my medication is ready, he understands my mental health condition and makes me feel comfortable all round really nice guy

If this review is based on Campbell house [name removed] [name removed] could have got hold of me sooner as he said he would get in touch when my medication ran out it made me feel like he didn’t want to help me but after [name removed] arranged a phone call with him [name removed] [name removed] reassured me that he is there for me and will help me through my mental health struggles. There was also a receptionist that waited for me at Campbell house before it closed to give me my prescription when I needed it not sure of her name but really lovely lady with a nice voice very helpful.

I was given a face to face appointment on very short notice following a telephone call & request for support. I was given time to discuss my concerns, there was compassion & understanding from the staff I spoke to. I was given lots of information & advice & the plan that was suggested was put in place the same day. I felt seen, I felt listened to & supported.

Suggested improvements
I don't think there was anything that could have been done better.

Since I began my CBT sessions with [name removed] back in November 2021 I am delighted to say that my mental, physical and general health has improved significantly thanks to her guidance, reassurance and understanding of my concerns. In November I was struggling with extreme anxiety but over time [name removed] taught me to challenge my excessive worries, and to face my fears rather than constantly avoiding them. [name removed] taught me to question my way of managing anxiety - and identify whether my fears are hypothetical or practical. In doing so, I have been able to focus on what I can control, rather than what is my biggest fear and ultimately beyond my control. [name removed] taught me to put coping mechanisms in place that help to manage nightmares, disturbing images, feelings of fear/dread and to question the unrealistic expectations of motherhood I put on myself. My whole experience of CBT has been invaluable, and I am incredibly fortunate to have been allocated [name removed] as my therapist. [name removed] has been kind, understanding, thoughtful and completely judgement free - which really helped me to stay honest and open throughout the process. I have learnt techniques that I hope to apply to many aspects of my life, as well as helping to manage my anxiety. The process as a whole has exceeded my expectations and I am very thankful to have met [name removed] and for her to support me on this journey. I cannot praise [name removed] enough and her compassion, understanding and light hearted approach to something that can be incredibly difficult and hard for me to discuss has helped me open up in ways I didn't think was possible. I will definitely recommend this service to family and friends if they are to ever experience the same struggles I did. Thank you again [name removed] and I wish you all the best (and will miss our appointments a lot)!

Suggested improvements
It would be great to meet in person but I understand that isn't always a possibility. Overall the process has beyond exceeded my expectations - and that is all thanks to my wonderful therapist [name removed].

Can’t thank the team enough for their support. I have learnt so much about myself by completing the course.

Suggested improvements
More face to face sessions. First and last sessions would work well.

I did not recieve the support I needed, just an email with links to other services after what felt like a cold phonecall. I am very depressed and finding the motivation to refer myself to other services not as part of the NHS is not enough. I will now try some of the links as I'm desperate for help but these are links I could have found with Google.

Suggested improvements
Directly liase with other services on my behalf or provide those services on the nhs. Mental health is a big problem for many people especially with the cost of living crisis and this is in my opinion inadequate. CBT is something that won't help I'd underlying issues are not resolved first

I am sorry to hear that this is how you feel about contacting the service. We mainly provide CBT techniques and coping strategies and so through discussion in the assessment, if this came to light then you would have been more directed to alternative sources of support. I think the point raised about referring onwards is feasible and is conducted with services who have on-line or professional referral options but this is not always the case and unless it is clear for a specialist type of treatment, we tend to provide choice and options for clients. If you have any further issues please contact me at the service on 0300 9991616. Dr Sarah Clare, IAPT Lead, Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Review of Understanding and Managing Emotions Group
23rd June 2022

Taking part in the modules has given me quite a good amount of clarity, that I am not alone and has indicated a better direction, for when it comes to caring for myself, my needs and my state of mind; in order to live a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle. It has made me focus on providing myself with essential breaks, to care for myself and other's much better.

Suggested improvements
It would have been lovely to participate, in person but I am really happy with the personnel approach that has been taken, via Zoom. I do not have any negatives to write about, I have thoroughly enjoyed this module and found it beneficial.

Review of Understanding and Managing Emotions Group
23rd June 2022

There was a mention of religion/god in one of the sessions which I didn't feel was wholly appropriate. The facilitators did make it clear that they understand not everyone is religious but I did find it quite bizarre. Other than that I think the group has been very helpful and greatly improved my skills for coping in crisis/with difficult situations.

Suggested improvements
I can't think of anything to put other than what I've already written.

Response from Campbell House

Thank you for your feedback. We're pleased to hear you found the group helpful and feel better equipped to deal with difficult situations. The skills delivered during the programme are taken from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. The IMPROVE skill references prayer. As you mention, our facilitators recognise that not everyone has religious beliefs and try encourage individual adaptation of the skill. We often encourage people to access their Wise Mind rather than consulting to a higher being. We're sorry to hear this wasn't communicated effectively and will consider ways of adapting delivery in future.
