One to one sessions would have been helpful.

Response from Campbell House

Thank you for your feedback. We know that many people would like one-to-one sessions which are available in some instances. However, we have found that the outcomes from our group treatments have been very good on the whole and many people enjoy the support from fellow group members as well as the therapist.

Review of IAPT Talking Therapies Northants
23rd September 2022

My therapist was [name removed]. She was kind and compassionate throughout my whole journey. Took the time to get to know me and family members and took a genuine interest in my life. I felt [name removed] was always approachable and professional in her duty. And easy to open up to about a difficult past experience. [name removed] always communicated efficiently and always tailored my appointments to my needs understanding of my life and work balance. I felt as though [name removed] never needed prompting on my situation and history and I felt like she genuinely cared. We tried CBT Therpay which didn't really work well for me for a variety of reasons so [name removed] suggested EMDR therapy which has worked great and I was discharged today. But [name removed] made me aware of ways in which I can access further support if it required. [name removed] is so knowledgeable in her role and I would highly recommend this service based on her help alone. Thank you so much [name removed], aside from being a great therapist you are a genuinely kind person. I am grateful to be on the mend thanks to you. [name removed]

Review of Perinatal Mental Health
17th September 2022

I felt well supported and understood by the staff in the Northampton Perinatal Mental Health team. This included support from [name removed], [name removed] and [name removed]. They were all so patient and treated me with respect and kindness. I really appreciated the amount of support I had from [name removed] during our many Microsoft Teams appointments, before and after the birth of my baby. I am in a much better place now than I was and I definitely think our sessions played a huge part in that. Thank you again. Please note, I have left the last 3 questions blank as they are not applicable.

Although I was under the perinatal mental health team during pregnancy, I did not feel completely clear on what after care there would be after my baby was born. Information regarding my mental health was in my maternity notes and birth plan but I do not feel this was taken seriously by the staff on the labour/postnatal wards. It did not help that the birth was over a bank holiday weekend so it was a few days before anyone from the perinatal mental health team visited me in hospital, by which point my mental health had deteriorated even further. The team were not at fault here but I do feel that the midwives/staff on the postnatal wards need to be more aware of mental health difficulties and how to approach them. For example, being told that my reaction to the birth and my baby was a concern and several mentions of referrals to social services was not helpful. They made me feel as though I was trapped in the hospital and that I was alone in feeling the way I did. An earlier intervention from the mental health team would have been better or additional training for the midwives.

Response from Campbell House

We apologise that you did not feel completely clear on the aftercare you would receive following the birth of your baby. It is good to hear that information relating to your mental health was included in your maternity notes but we are sorry that you do not feel that this was taken seriously by labour / postnatal wards. We will ensure that this is feedback via our SPMHS Midwife.

Thank you for your detailed review. I have passed your comment about the midwives/postnatal ward to the perinatal mental health service manager to discuss with the maternity staff. Best wishes, Hugh Jones, Patient Experience manager

For myself the four sessions were extremely informative and helpful. I learned a great deal and it has given me an anchor by giving me techniques which have helped with my General Anxiety and I shall continue to use them in my life. The therapist was approachable, professional and he delivered each session in a manner that left me feeling confident and able to work on my issues.

Suggested improvements
At this point,I am satisfied with my therapy.
