Having been informed that blood tests had been done and myself and my family were anxiously waiting for them, turns out the doctor had NOT done these bloods at all. Not impressed after asking several times for results from consultant. Doctor could not follow English conversation. Bloods were eventually taken ten weeks after the original ones were supposed to have been done! Day care unit. Went along to have chemotherapy started. I was booked in by clerkess at 9.50am for 10am appointment. I checked with clerkess that they knew I was there at 10.20am. I sat till 10.40am when a nurse finally appeared and took me through to day bed area. I asked what timings we were talking now as we were now running 40 minutes late, only to be asked "Do you have somewhere important to be?"!!! I was then informed that the chemotherapy prescribed for me was not in the unit yet and no one knew when it would be there! I was told three times that it was not there yet. Leaves me wondering why patients are given appointment times when you are expected to turn up and wait all day? I do not have time to do that. My consultant had assured me that treatment would take no more than 2 hours. I left the unit at 10.50am with no one knowing when or if my chemotherapy would arrive. I did get a phone call at 2.50pm to say they now had my chemotherapy did I want to go back in for it?! Due to being given the wrong information by a Doctor in the oncology clinic and the bloods issue and being messed about by whoever makes up the chemotherapy treatment, I have decided NOT to have chemotherapy. Whatever time I have left I dont intend to spend it sitting waiting to see if anyone could acknowledge that I have turned up for my appointment and then eventually find out that treatment is not there anyway and no one knows when it will be! I have also found out that there are errors in my case notes. I would like to say that the only nursing staff that have shown caring and knowledge are the nurses on the Acute Oncology Receiving ward. They are fantastic. They actually LISTEN to the patient and are friendly as well as efficient. Thank you to the nurses I met there. The rest of the hospital could learn alot from you.
