On the whole I was treated well , but I did have a bad experience in A&E dept and made a complaint through PALS. I had complained about rough treatment by a member of staff. The senior member of staff looked into my passage through the dept; as well as talking to the relevant member of staff. She realised I had been let down by triage as well. I felt the member I had complained about needed some updating of certain procedures and to have some compassion for his patients. I was very happy with the out come, especially that the sister of the dept; took the trouble to check everything, not only the one thing I was complaining about. She and the nurse Apologized for the incident and they were duly sent on the necessary updating. The Hospital is extremely busy and have recently tried to solve the problem of long waiting times, by opening another unit dealing with a lessor type of emergency. It is yet to be shown if this is the solution, but I'm sure it will be. I have talked to other patients and they all say how happy they have been there in the wards and the nurses are very caring. I found the food to be very nice and varied myself but if one was in for a long spell, no doubt it would not seem so.The wards were so clean as well. Naturally, the hospital being so large, the Nurses are rushed of their feet. It's not surprising that sometimes the nurse doesn't respond to a patients buzzer for a while, but it's hard to see it like that when you are the one desperate for a bed pan. If perhaps there could be a 2 buzz for a bedpan, then an appropriate nurse could answer the call leaving the nurses to answer the more important single calls.
