Do not expect much empathy, or care if you are suffering depression. I have a history of depression but it has been over 10 years since I have suffered a major episode. The doctor who used to treat me has now retired and I am at the mercy of the 'new brigade' I was told I could go on a list for counselling which could take up to three months, and meanwhile I should 'pull myself together, get out for a long walk, and improve my diet'. This advice was rather patronising and it was obvious the doctor felt it was a time wasting visit. I left the surgery feeling distressed and worthless. This type of issue is obviously not of high importance and I will be avoiding further consultation with this doctor in future.
