This surgery is massively over subscribed and has been for over 2yrs since a local surgery on Marsh Lane closed down. I have chronic illnesses that require a minimum of monthly reviews with a regular GP and as long as I am organised, the brilliant online system caters for this and I make appointments up to 4weeks in advance of the date required. The number of doctors available at the surgery and the walk in Duty doctor service usually allows for great access to emergency appointments within 48hrs but this is also a part of an NHS Walk In Centre service; which is then dominated by non-registered patients in an already oversubscribed subscribed surgery. If it truly is a "GP" emergency you can get in to see someone but there are no facilities to see your own doctor in a flare up or deterioration in an ongoing condition, even if you are prepared to wait up to 5days for an appointment- they have all been allocated 3weeks ago or are left open for on-the-day emergencies for people who don't even care who they see. It is certainly a floor in the system because in the situation of a chronic illness flare, a locum doctor or another GP is really of little use and yet someone could walk off the street to see your doctor because their issue is considered urgent (when actually it may not be, they were just able (well enough) to come and sit and wait for one of the duty doctor slots in the timetable). I chose my doctor after trying a few and I wouldn't swap him for anyone. Rarely do you find someone who spends the consultation time finding out what your goals are and what you deem to be "well/ stable/ in good health" so it can be worked towards together. You always wait to see him because he spends his time with a patient in crisis, and when it is me, I'm grateful that he doesn't clock watch or scrabble for any old prescription to get me out of the door until next time. This is of course Jonathan Rudolph. I wouldn't be without him, and I truly believe he would love for me to no longer have any cause toneed to see him, AND for nonselfish reasons!

Grumpy, unfriendly receptionists but they're probably under far too much pressure. A chaotic system for booking appointments and I resent being asked the nature of my problem in the middle of a busy reception area. It seems that the centre is attempting to deal with far too many patients so one feels rushed. I'm also not sure why I'm being asked so many questions in this survey, i.e. ethnicity, age. Why is that relevant?

The wait to be seen is way to long. The receptionist is not very helpful and there should be more than one doctor working as they clearly can't cope with the amount of people needing care

I have been with this surgery since 1980 and had nothing but praise for it. However ,since the sudden closure of the rival Village surgery ,the Practice has been flooded with some 7000 new patients. Demand on staff is far too great and efficiency has greatly decreased . Medical treatment is generally excellent , although I prefer to have my regular doctor , who is familiar with my state of health. This is RARELY possible .The weakness is that getting an appointment has become a chore. This is what happened to me a week or so before Christmas when I attempted to make half yearly review appointments with my chosen doctor for my wife and myself on the same day consecutively. I was told no appointments were available . I asked the receptionist to speak to the doctor , time not being of the essence, and she agreed to this. This was on a Friday . The following Monday had an INR test and enquired again , being told that I would hear from the doctor. We eventually were granted 2 appointments , my wife's for Monday this week and mine for Friday. This means 2 journeys and parking and is a waste of the patients' time. As there was no urgency , my request for adjacent appointments should have been honoured . Contrary to a previous review from an ex-patient , we have always been treated with utmost respect and consideration by Receptionists , who work under heavy pressure and still manage to smile . The system is in need of overhaul so that patients can get the service they deserve.

I am Chair of the Pinn Medical Centre's Patients Association. I have read a very disturbing posting by a former Pinn patient. Whilst obviously I cannot comment on this patients experience, I am extremely surprised. In nearly 20 years as a patient, and 5 years as chair of our Association, with considerable patient liaison, I would assess clinical care at the Pinn as excellent. Jim Bradford
