My complaint is not regarding the clinical diagnosis provided by DR Sanga but more about her professionalism and attitude towards me. I brought my 5 year old son to surgery because I was concerned about his asthma. Her first question was "how can I help you today?" Whilst giving her the relevant recent history, she cut me short and proceeded to carry out a respiratory assessment of my son. I added that his chest is always clear at which she sternly said "I will listen and I will know". When she diagnosed that he does not need steroids, I raised my surprise. She then asked why I felt that he does. If she hadn't cut me short initially, then she would have known. She did not seem to appreciate me mentioning the concerns that the pediatric respiratory specialist had informed us on a previous occasion that an uncontrolled cough is the manifestation of his wheeze. She suggested that we should increase his clenil inhaler from 2 puffs twice daily to two puffs three times daily. I attempted to explain that the respiratory specialist has always said that in the acute setting, the increasing dose of clenil is inappropriate. She did not appreciate or accept this. She then sternly stated that she will not argue with me and she will prescribe the steroids but she does not believe that they are needed at this stage. Her whole manner, lack of interest in listening to the history and her aversion to want to acknowledge the previous input of the respiratory specialists is what concerned me. I would have felt content if she had respectfully listened to what I had to say especially as she asked me the question at the outset. I felt that she prescribed the steroids to appease me and get rid of me. I did say to her that I felt that she hadn't listened to me but she was not bothered. I believe that the history taking and listening to the presenting complaint as well as the relevant recent medical history is key to assessment and treatment. I would not want myself or my family to be treated by this Dr again. I do however, have a great deal of respect and trust in the other Dr's at this surgery who've treated myself and my family over the years.
