It took 3 emergency visits before I actually saw a doctor. I was extremely unwell but no doctor would visit. I was taken to the surgery door by my partner and staggered to the waiting room, then later to a surgery. The paramedics were pretty good, they could see how ill I was. On the next visit a week later (still an emergency as I had got worse) a blood test was finally taken. The receptionist telephoned me 4 days after the test and said I needed to be seen urgently - that turned out to be the following Tuesday, hardly urgent (my dog gets seen the same day if it is urgent). The next blood test (again urgent) took 2 weeks for an appointment, another week for a result and another week for an appointment (one month in total before I saw a doctor again). If you are ill this is not the place to go. On my second visit to the surgery I "picked up" a cold and "hand foot and mouth" (I hadn't been out of my house or had any visitors prior to this second visit). This was the last thing I needed on top of the other illness. The waiting room is dingy and dismal - don't touch anything there. Waiting in the same room as about 10 other sick people is not a good plan. Of 4 visits so far I have seen 2 paramedics and 2 different doctors. What happened to continuity of care?
