As a working person, the telephone system just doesn't work for me at all. I've tried it twice now. I am a nanny looking after 3 young children. 13 hour days. The first time I missed the call as it came before 8:30 in the morning - earlier than I had expected. I arranged early school drop offs to be available by the 8:30 slot I had selected and I missed the call. Today I selected a later slot (11am) giving me Lee - way should I be called earlier or later but by 12:30 having had no call I had to ring the surgery to say I would have to cancel because of my work commitments, (I know it's stated that the time selected isn't necessarily going to be when you are rung but I did hope)..... it's just not possible or professional to be available all day waiting for a call at work and it's also not appropriate to have to discuss medical issues at work or in the street or wherever you happen to be...... Unfortunately my Doctor didn't get my message and continued trying me until 6pm - such a waste of her time. I am happy with a phone call but need an idea of what time the call will be, even a guide would help. I tried to plan it today around school drop off / nursery school drop off and lunchtime collection but to no avail. I do also wish appointments were still bookable with a straightforward call to the receptionists. The receptionist I spoke to sounded totally worn out and fed up - I also had to wait a long, long time in a queue on the phone - again not ideal when at work. My Doctor is wonderful but it's so tricky trying to co - ordinate speaking to her.
