I attended Park Surgery on 21/4/21 for a Warfarin blood test. A "pricker" was used on my R/H forefinger (usually the middle finger). The prick was more painful than usual. The INR test was ok. My finger later felt very sore and tender. upon examination it was found to be very bruised. Almost simultaneously my middle finger became hot, swollen and painful. At first I wondered if I had some poisoning. No other fingers were effected, so I reasoned that although I take Aloperno tablets, it was probably gout that had been triggered. Several days of Cochine tablets seem to cure the middle finger problem. In the meantime I was unable to use my right hand. I could not hold a pen, cutlery, mug etc. My forefinger has recovered, but with some loss of feeling in the fingertip.

Suggested improvements
In order that this should not happen to anyone else. Please could I make a suggestion:- The nurse taking the blood test, ask the patient "which hand do you write with" Then take the blood test from the other hand. At least if they suffer a trauma? it will not leave them incapacitated
