I spent 15 minutes today listening to “Sorry to keep you waiting your call will be answered shortly” only to be eventually told to call back later. This is not the first time by any stretch of imagination - last month my phone bill showed a charge of 8 pounds - just trying to get through to make an appointment. It is far quicker (and easier on my mental health) to get in the car and make the appointment in person but what happens to those who are not able to do this? Surely the phones could be manned by more than one person during busy times?
