Just switched over to this practice from Cyncoed medical centre and absolutely appalled with the difference in service. I gave birth 2.5 weeks ago and urgently need a doctors appointment and is impossible to get through. You end up waiting kn phone lines for at least an hour and then all appointments are gone! Not sure what I will do when if my baby gets unwell as I will not be taking the lack of care very well… seems very understaffed and no want or need to put things in place to better the situation. Wish i never changed to here.

Phoned up for results of blood tests, told to phone later.phoned later told nurse would phone me with results on Monday. She did not phone so tried to phone surgery from 10.30 am to 5pm to see why. Could not get through so drove up there and told nurse had phoned that morning. No missed calls on my mobile which I had beside me all day. It usually takes ringing 13 times from 8am to get through to get An appointment for that day, and by around 8.35 they are all booked. I usually manage to get through for same day appointment on my third day of ringing.

Suggested improvements
Answer the phones when they ring. If a patient has been unable to book an appointment and goes to local pharmacy for advice and takes medication that doesn’t work, please do not suggest that patient goes back to pharmacy again as it is quiet obvious patient needs to see a doctor as medication has not worked. Empathy and compassion is needed to be taught to receptionists

I spent 15 minutes today listening to “Sorry to keep you waiting your call will be answered shortly” only to be eventually told to call back later. This is not the first time by any stretch of imagination - last month my phone bill showed a charge of 8 pounds - just trying to get through to make an appointment. It is far quicker (and easier on my mental health) to get in the car and make the appointment in person but what happens to those who are not able to do this? Surely the phones could be manned by more than one person during busy times?
