It is extremely frustrating trying to get an appointment with the doctor you want to see, after 3 weeks of trying to book online, morning and evening, and phoning for an appointment I eventually went to the surgery when it opened at 8am to get the appointment. This is the reason why many people go straight to A&E. I hate having to resort to going to the doctors at the best of times and may have a serious problem as a result of having to wait that extra time. I know the receptionist and call operators are only doing the job they have been asked to do but I do not want to discuss personal medical information with them and if I know I need to see a doctor I do not want to be palmed off to a nurse practitioner. If I know I don't have a serious problem I am more than happy to see one of these people, but when you know you have something seriously wrong why should you have to wait so long or get passed from one person to another and have all the extra prodding about and probing questions.
