A few weeks ago I rang to make an appointment to see a doctor, I had a problem with my eyes, the receptionist said I needed to see the optician, I explained it wasn’t my sight but a problem around my eye. She said I needed to see an optician as they do a health check. I rang to make an appointment with the optician and they couldn’t see me for another week. When I saw the optician she said I needed to pay £25 for he health check as it’s not covered by the NHS. I am a pensioner and every penny counts. The optician advised me to bathe my eyes twice a day and buy an eye mask to heat in the microwave (£10) and use that twice a day. I was then away for a week, visiting my son Who I hadn’t seen since October, during which time the condition got worse and affected both eyes which by now were red, swollen, very sore and itchy. On my return last Friday I tried ringing the surgery and eventually got through but as it wasn’t an emergence I was asked to ring again on Monday I tried on and off most of the day to get through to the surgery without success and eventually gave up. I did manage to get through today and managed to speak to Dr Brice On the telephone who then asked me to go to the surgery so she could see my eyes. I now have some cream which will hopefully solve the problem in a few days but the whole process has been thoroughly frustrating and expensive!

Suggested improvements
To listen to the patient and not have the receptionist make a decision that caused me more suffering, or prolonged suffering And expense.
