I've called a couple times in the last couple of months about severe shortages of medication that I rely on to be functional on a daily basis - I can't work without this medication.
Twice I've been chewed out by the same receptionist who doesn't bother to listen to the question I'm asking and instead talks over me to give me a solution that I have either already tried, or one that won't work (i.e. try another chemist) because the shortage is national.
She seems to get annoyed when I ask for clarification - I have a neurodevelopmental disorder so information processing can be slow especially when I'm already overwhelmed from being interrupted and talked over. The last time I called she booked me an unnecessary appointment so she wouldn't have to deal with it (paraphrasing her own words). She talked over me to tell me that she was booking it, as I tried to explain that I could go to my private clinician to change my prescription to one that was available. So by saving herself 30 seconds she will have managed to waste not only mine and her own time, but also the time of the doctor whose appointment I don't need to attend. She was interrupting me at every opportunity at this point so I wasn't able to tell her to cancel it.
On a separate occasion, she has also been rude to me about the fact that I don't drive, strongly implying that it's absurd, despite the fact that the reason I can't drive is related to my disorder.
I usually have a very positive experience at this surgery however after being spoken to like a child by the receptionist and being made to wait outside and ‘look through the window’ for my name on the screen (which I couldn’t see, and was snapped at when I told the receptionist this) because I didn’t have a negative lateral flow test with me, despite saying I had taken one earlier that day off my own back for work. I was sent a text 5 minutes before my appointment, just as I arrived at the surgery to bring a negative lateral flow, I was not informed of this requirement prior to my appointment. I am very disappointed, and feel very frustrated as this caused me to forget questions I wanted to ask during my appointment. Unfortunately this is why doctors receptionists have a bad reputation. It is a shame that I work at the other local doctors surgery and cannot be registered there, as I begrudge returning now.
I had an appointment for my Covid vaccination on Saturday 13th. I was a bit apprehensive that I would have to join a long queue outside the building. Not at all. It was organised with utmost care, professionalism and speed was of the essence. Thank you Dr King for your kindness and putting a rather anxious patient at ease.
I cannot praise the surgery too much. In these very difficult times they carry on as best they can, offering telephone appointments and where necessary face to face appointments. I always feel that my GP, Dr Benton, is giving me his full attention and he certainly doesn’t clock watch as some doctors (not here) do and you feel that you are given the time to assess your symptoms. I am grateful for the superb care that we receive from all of the staff at this lovely caring surgery.
Overall experience was very good on this occasion
