My husband & I have been registered at the surgery for 3 years & haven't had to visit very often in that time, but when we have the GP's have always been very helpful & informative. I love the phone system (even though there is a bit of a delay getting through because of all the choices, should you simply wish to speak to someone, ), as you can do most things just through the automated system. Receptionists are a mixed bag, either really pleasant & helpful or absolutely dire! On one occasion my husband was stood at the desk for 5 minutes (he timed it) & completely ignored by the receptionist, who was intent on completing whatever vital & important task she was doing on the computer screen. She didn't even have the grace & manners to look up & acknowledge him! He could see the receptionist behind her in the main reception area, so he walked around to ask her for the prescription he'd called in for, only to be told he had to go back around to the lobby reception area for it. By the time he got back there, the queue had grown & a frail, elderly couple had to stand for ages waiting to be acknowledged by reception. Bit of a farce, on that occasion. That said, my husband had an appt in the West Wing yesterday (10/03)& Trudy (Trudi?) was brilliant. I was very impressed with how she handled a constant stream of phone calls (some of which were clearly stroppy patients) & patients at the desk. She had such a friendly, calm manner & remained polite, helpful & professional throughout all of her encounters. Her attention to patient confidentiality was great too.
