The main problem is getting an appointment which is crazy. Excuses given are that it is a nationwide problem and that other local surgeries have closed! Maybe, but what is the point of over-extending the practice by just taking on any new patients. We are told not to go to A&E unless a dire emergency but to see out GP!! what a joke. Surely with good management you keep patient numbers to the number you can deal with efficiently? On my last recent visit I was told to book an appointment with a certain doctor which has proved impossible. I have a condition which I am trying to find out if it is something sinister, extensive blood tests, health checks etc etc but no way for a follow up. This is since June!! Can't get a referral to a specialist unless I see the doctor first. I feel patients health is being put at risk. This needs to be sorted.

Response from Meridian Surgery

I am sorry that you had problems with booking an appoointment to see your usual doctor. There is nothing management can do to keep our patient numbers down. We have already reduced our practice border, but even if we close our practice list, we can be forced to register patients by the heath autority so closing list is not the answer. However, we are changing the system about regular chealth checks for chronic conditions, from the 1st of April, patients will recieve a phone call from the surgery and be booked with a nurse/doctor for a specific health check such as dabetes/asthma/hypertension. If you are still struggling to see your GP, please speak to our patient services manager Yvonne Jones. Best wishes Dr Irma Murjikneli
