It is virtually impossible to get an appointment and the situation has been the same for years. The booking system seems expressly designed to keep the waiting list look small while making life as difficult as possible for potential patients. Your receptionists have to deal with continuous calls to deal with the problem and, while they somehow manage to remain polite, have become unhelpful and uncaring. I have personally avoided or deferred calling the surgery to make appointments because I knew that I would end up in the ridiculous merry go round of early morning calls and chasing for cancellations. More than once the delay in seeing a doctor has meant that a condition got worse. I am sure I am not alone. This is not what effective care looks like.
