It's disgraceful, utterly disgraceful! Was told to phone at 8am to make an appointment only to have a taped message saying the surgery is closed our opening hours are 800 - 1800 ring CHOC, when I ring back I get an American sounding lady saying sorry all lines are currently busy please try later, when I finally DO get through I'm told to go to access centre ( who sigh when you mention James Street), if they're sending people to access centre they needn't bother being there! And sometimes the receptionists are downright rude! There's more chance of getting into North Korea as there is of James Street

They are awful. Phone and phone and never answer. Kept waiting from 10 mins up to a hour or more at times. And sometime they end call on you after a long time waiting to speck to someone. They are the worst receptionists ever. Rude. Condersending, intrusive. Extreamlynin caring, after being with this practice all my life. I have come to hate the task of making an appointment. It's just about impossible to do so. Even when I manage this task. I'm feeling worse then ever. Discated with these people. Also they ask in appropriate question for ther role, I don't feel comfortable having to tell someone who isn't NOT my doctor my Heath problems. Inorder to BEG for an appointment How ever the doctors are brill once you get to see one that is.

I phoned the James street surgery Workington just after opening on 6th of January 2015 for an emergency appointment with a doctor, I was told there were no appointments, I would have to got to the drop in centre at workington hospital, so the appointment was made for 11-45am. At the hospital I noticed it was a doctor from James street surgery, but when I was called I noticed on the door that I was seeing the nurse practitioner instead of a doctor, I knew she could not deal with my problems, and did not really want to tell her what my problems were or for her to go through my medical history, but I did not want to upset her by saying I don't want to see you, so I carried on with my consultation, in the end she said, I cant help you, you need to see a doctor, she asked the name of my surgery then vanished for over 10 minutes, when she came back she said you have an appointment at your doctors for 3-45pm that day, I said fine I was going round now to se the practice manager. I went round to the surgery explained I had an appointment for 3-45pm the receptionist looked, and said she could see no appointment for me and that the hospital did not have access to their computer system. I asked to see the practice manager at this point, she phoned the practice manager, I was told she would be right down to see me, 10 minutes later she appeared, and took me into one of the doctors rooms the first thing I asked was, why do I need to be a patient at this surgery when I am being sent to the drop in centre to see a nurse, when I needed a doctor, I also told her that when they open their appointment line on a Friday at 1pm , when you manage to get through and ask for an appointment with a certain doctor they have all gone, If you call for an appointment during the week, in the past you could only get an emergency appointment, now it seems you cant even get an emergency appointment in the surgery, and are going to be sent to the drop in centre, this surgery is getting worse, although the the practice manager said they were making improvements to try and resolve the problem, this problem as been there for a few years now, its gone slowly down hill, it needs a total rethink the present system scrapped and a new start made to get back to the best practice and not the worst in the town. In the end I was given an appointment for 3-45pm unfortunately the doctor was out on a call, and I did not get in to see her until 4-20. Was there appointments when I was told there was none, or was I squeezed in? I will never know. Next time I cant get an appointment when I need to see a doctor, and not a nurse practitioner, I will go to accident and emergency at the west cumberland hospital, then when I get in I will explain why I am there.
