I don't require a doctor very often but when I do I feel a build up of resentment that I will have the usual 8 o'clock challenge of getting through to the abrasive receptionists who will, always, tell you that a particular doctor, none of usually 4 options I give, aren't working that day or are full already. Today I called a total of 29 times in 15 minutes. By the time you get through your blood pressure would be through the roof if you had stress issues. It is simply not good enough. It didn't used to be like this. Eventually I got an appointment but once again with a doctor I have never heard of and it was for a personal issue, so I will set off with trepidation. What has happened to this surgery I ask myself. A town that his become increasing dominated by elderly, could that be it? Or is it that the doctors take too many patients on their lists and most of them work part time so are rarely there. Perhaps, as a result of having so little work hours they are contracting in doctors! Whatever it is this practice needs to look at itself and improve. So how to improve, as an ex medical secretary, I would monitor the attitude of the receptionists. The practice doctors could have regular slots so patients can get to know when they are able to visit their own doctor, continuity of care is vital and should be a big focus for improvement.
