Terrible patient care service. I am currently removing myself and family from this practice.
Was going away for a three-week holiday in the UK and submitted my repeat prescription request a week earlier than normal, in order to ensure sufficient medication whilst away and followed this up with an explanation as to why.
Unable to obtain my medication prior to travelling - instead told to go to any pharmacy in the UK and have it dispensed there, as the prescription would have to be post-dated and would not come into force until a week after I had gone away.
Why would it have been so difficult for the practice to authorise immediate availability of the prescription?
It seems as though there is some jobsworth at the practice whose sole function is to make patients' lives as difficult as possible. Either that or they have to pay for these medications out of their own pocket.
Twice now I have had telephone calls with the practice with qualified medical staff and they’ve used google to diagnose me. Both times they went against consultant specialist medical advice and were very argumentative and rude. They clearly had no idea what to advise and, instead of being honest, they decided to use google. This practice is dangerous and better qualified staff need bringing in. They also have a lot of trainee drs in the practice who are also not properly supervised and are missing things during the consultations.
Yesterday as an emergency, I was instructed to go to hospital for an emergency scan. After 10 hours it was found I have a disc problem in my back, which is trapping nerves, disrupting my bladder functions and mobility. Despite this fact, its not serious enough for an operation, but appropriate rest and medication, follow up physio should resolve the problem. Hospital gave me 3 days of diazepam, and Co codamol, and said to go to my doctors to continue the course. Today, I attempted that, which was denied (due to costs involved) no alternative offered and doctors callback in a weeks time. An absolute disgrace. And should I end up wearing nappies at the end of this journey at 51 years of age, because you can't look after your patients accordingly, then expect to see me in court. As the complainant.
Receptionists with an attitude don't help, and expecting me to go through this pain with Co codamol is absolutely clueless.
The above options could have been worded better. Here is a more accurate summary.
Is is possible to get an appointment when you need one? NO
Is it an untrained receptionist who decides whether you get to see a doctor/nurse the same day or not? YES
Can you get an appointment at Moor Park for same day emergency? NO. YOU ARE SENT TO WHITEGATE DRIVE. WHY NOT HAVE MORE DOCTORS/NURSES AT MOOR PARK IF THAT IS WHAT IS REQUIRED?
Are some of the staff good? ABSOLUTELY
Are some of the doctors terrible? ABSOLUTELY
Are some of the doctors good? DR NOLAN IS BRILLIANT AND SHE IS NOW THE ONLY DOCTOR I WANT TO SEE, HAVING TRIED MANY OF THEM AND BEEN DISAPPOINTED. THERE WAS ANOTHER GREAT DOCTOR, BUT HE WAS JUST A LOCUM SADLY.
Anything specific? YES. OUR SON HAS HAD ONGOING HEALTH PROBLEMS SINCE BIRTH. NOTHING MAJOR, BUT CLEARLY NOT NORMAL. WE HAVE HAD COMMENTS SUCH AS "I SEE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN A LOT" . THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE IF THE NEXT WORDS WERE "LET'S GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS" BUT INSTEAD I WAS MADE OUT TO BE A FRETTING MUM. THIS WAS BY ONE OF THE SURGERY'S MOST EXPERIENCED DOCTORS.
ANOTHER ONE WAS A QUESTION TO MY 2 YEAR OLD SON "DO YOU HAVE ANY BROTHERS OR SISTERS?" I REPLIED "NO" AND HE SAID "AH, SO A SPOILED ONLY CHILD THEN" (EXACT WORDS).
ONE OF THE SENIOR GP'S ASKED WHAT I DID WHEN MY SON WAS THIRSTY IF I DIDN'T GIVE HIM WATER (HE WAS A FEW MONTHS OLD). I REPLIED "BREAST FEED". HE WENT AGAINST EVERYTHING THAT WE NOW KNOW ABOUT BREASTFEEDING AND TOLD ME THAT THAT WAS THE WRONG THING TO DO!!!
ANOTHER DOCTOR TOLD ME "THAT'S NOT THE WAY WE DO IT IN OUR COUNTRY" ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE. SHE TOO HAD SEEN THE NUMBER OF DOCTOR VISITS AND IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED ME.
Are the nurses good? REALLY GREAT.
If it wasn't for Doctor Nolan being brilliant, I would have left this practice many, many years ago.
I understand that GPs are under pressure. But rather than being dismissive, if they actually took the time to listen to patients then a proper diagnosis could be made and there would be no need for return appointments, therefore easing the burden.
What also makes me laugh if the "customer satisfaction" stats that are released. I don't know ANYBODY who is happy with this surgery, so where are they get the glowing reports, I don't know.
