This is a busy GP practice. It is nearly always possible to see a doctor (but not always your own GP) on the day you phone if your problem is urgent. Usually your phone call goes to a call room (which is I think at the Old Cottage Hospital). You may then be transferred to your own GP practice or given an appointment straight away. The phone system is not very user friendly and you may have to hang on for quite a while before your call is answered. Somtimes but not always, you will be told where you are in the queue. You may then in the first instance be phoned back by an assistant practitioner, who is not a doctor but is usually able to assess whether or not you do need to see a doctor on that day. The receptionists are mostly helpful but there have been several occasions when one particular receptionist's attitude has been rude and unhelpful.
