I am unclear why I have to explain my concerns to a receptionist for them to 'vet' why I need to see a doctor. The doctor then telephones me, we have a chat and then I get asked to go and see them, completely invalidating the phone call. You cant get an appointment for love nor money and its nuts.

Response from Didcot Health Centre

I am sorry that you feel you have had problems getting an ‘on the day’ appointment. The doctors have asked our receptionists to request an indication of the problem from all patients who call for an ‘on the day’ appointment. You don't have to answer this question, but it does help the doctor to determine who needs to be contacted most urgently. The doctor might then decide while speaking to you that a visit to the Health Centre is not necessary and self-care advice is given instead. There are always ‘on day’ appointments available for patients that the doctor decides need to be seen. This system helps us ensure that on day appointments at the surgery are reserved for those patients for whom they are most appropriate. We will always respect your privacy and anything you tell any member of staff will be kept confidential.
