13th February 2022

An Inguinal Hernia operation carried out at Maryport by Mr Dresner and Dr White and was performed on 7th of January which went 'drastically wrong with nerve damage' (Surgical Doctors words at A&E Carlisle) The next morning intense pain led to being admitted to Carlisle A&E and on to 11 days on morphine and strong medication since. Different medications were tried by my own Doctors but was only partially successful. After a month, at an appointment with CMS, I learnt that a nerve had been cut and the correct medication was prescribed.

Suggested improvements
There was no follow up care, or even a phone call, and only after getting an appointment a month later was it disclosed that a nerve had been cut, as such I could have been started sooner on the correct medication. After my release from A&E my phone call to CMS should have led to immediate treatment for nerve damage. This was not offered. Difficulty in getting a follow up appointment.
