I think they need to improve getting test results back to patients rather than filing the results......I went for a fast track gastroscopy on Monday and was told the report would be with the doctor the following day and nothing else. When I called the following day I was initially told the results were not in then I was told they had just come in and were with the doctor - I was reassured that I would get a call back. Nothing happened so I called back the following morning and was told that the results were not back. I queried this and again told the results were not in BUT she then found blood test results from the previous week that had not been fed back to me. It seems that neither the hospital or the GP's are taking any responsibility for telling patients the results of tests and it is being left in the hands of the receptionists who are not medically qualified to discuss the results. Forgive me but this doesn't inspire me with confidence surely the patient should be the first person to know their results.
