Came for a confirmation appointment of pregnancy, specifically asked for a test to be done when booking the appointment and was promised this but then had to argue with the Dr for one to be done. Was told to then contact the Chippenham birthing centre to which the number wouldn’t dial/connect and took over an hour to get through. Also told to collect a pregnancy pack from reception and there was none in stock. For a first pregnancy this was really stressful & not expected for the start of an exciting journey.

Response from Beversbrook Medical Centre

Hello there, thanks for your feedback and I am really sorry to hear that you have experienced these issues at such an exciting time. I think we certainly could have done better here and agree that it is disappointing that there were not Pregnancy Packs available in Reception. I have asked my team to look into this stock issue and thank you for bringing it to our attention. The pregnancy tests we keep in clinic are supplied to us by Public Health for use with our No Worries patients only. This is because pregnancy tests are readily available over the counter at your local pharmacy and tests can be done from the comfort of your own home, without the need for a GP appointment. Home testing is usually pretty accurate so if you have had a positive pregnancy test then you can self-refer to the Midwifery Team at Chippenham Birthing Centre, who then inform us of your pregnancy and plans for on-going care. I am sorry that you had trouble reaching them and I am sure that the RUH PALS department would equally be grateful for your feedback regarding this issue so that they can prevent other patients from the same experience. They can be contacted through 01225 825656. I would very much like to hear from you further to review your concerns and to look at ways we can help to improve your experience of our service in the meantime and can be contacted via e-mail in the first instance at emmybutcher@nhs.net. I look forward to hearing from you. Kindest regards, Emmy Butcher, Managing Partner
