Since having 2 total hip replacement operations in 2016 I no longer need, nor do I take Tramadol. Between 2006 and 2016 I found it very helpful to take 1 or 2 50 mg capsules when experiencing ACUTE arthritic pain as a painkiller of 'last resort'. I did not find it to be at all helpful for the chronic pain of arthritis ie. if taken regularly, it seemed to have little overall effect on the pain but made me very drowsy, in fact, paracetamol proved to be more helpful for chronic pain. Immediately following my 2 hip replacement operations in 2016 I took 8 x 50mg capsules per day for 2 weeks, reducing to 0 during the 3rd week. Again, tramadol proved invaluable for pain in these acute post-op circumstances, however, I noticed what I assume were unpleasant withdrawal symptoms during the 3rd week (eg. restless legs at night).
