Hydroxocobalamin or B12 injections are absolutely wonderful ! BUT only if you get them a lot more frequently than every 3 months. This level of medication is so low as to be considered cruel to most patients whose symptoms return, sometimes within days of an injection, and usually within 4 weeks. To make them wait another 2 months while they suffer symptoms of neurological degeneration is nothing short of inhumane! Doctors need to start prescribing this medication to patients a lot more frequently when they request it. You cannot overdose on it, it is not a placebo and it is not addictive. It has been recorded since the 1920s that patients should be treated according to their individual needs - so why aren't doctors doing just that? Doctors should also note that the risk of undertreating patients far outweighs any risks they wrongly believe to be related to 'over-treating'. These injections are cheap and quick to perform. How much surgery time could be saved by giving patients what they, and historical medicine, says makes them better rather than having to make continual appointments to try and discuss recurring symptoms and getting nowhere. Doctors could save time and money and vastly improve the quality of life of many, many patients, if only they would update their skills and knowledge relating to B12 treatment and stop denying patients the care they desperately need. Doctors BELIEVE your patients. Give them the medication they need to keep their health tolerable.
