This is a copy of the e.mail I sent to Professor Rogers 6 weeks post THR : ''I just wanted to re-iterate my huge thanks to you for all the help & honest advice you gave me to enable me make the decision to have my THR . As you probably guessed, it was very difficult for me to admit & get my head around the fact that it was that it was needed, but it was 100% the right decision. I am now pain & drug free (other than scar & soft tissue niggles) , & 6 weeks post -op, I feel like my life is returning & am feeling like my old self again thanks to you'' When I first met Prof Rogers, I was in a lot of pain with my hip & consequently having difficulty carrying out many every day activities including work . Being relatively young (58yrs), I found it very difficult to admit that it was anything more than a sports injury . Prof Rogers was very realistic & honest diagnosing OA as the cause - he listened to my concerns & clearly explained the choices I had ahead of me & pros & cons of each. There was no pressure to make any immediate decisions - inevitably I had many more questions which were always answered promptly within 24 hours of sending an email to his office. Fully informed with all the facts I took the decision to have a THR which was done at Gatwick Park. The admin, nursing, house, physio & surgical teams were all fantastic making the whole In patient 'journey' run as smoothly as possible for me.
