Mr Shah is interested in his work, enthusiastic and friendly and positive in outlook without appearing unsympathetic. He looks at Xrays attentively and spots problems related to the one under consideration and the possible effects of these. He responds to questions. He inspires confidence because he is straightforward, attentive and detailed and comes across as an authentic person. The surgery (2 hip replacements) seems to have gone well in that the spike looks well-centred in the femur and the bone is growing around the prosthesis. He says it should last 20 years . I reported the various, post-surgical problems I had had verbally for information but dealing with those does not come under the purview of surgery. I don't think Mr Shah could have done more than he did as a surgeon but I do think that something needs addressing with the health service structures and practice as regards the entire process of recovery. I had to go to great lengths to find the help I needed as regards recovery and rehabilitation and as I know quite a lot about movement and also have contacts I was able, eventually, to find people and techniques that helped me regain the proprioception and use of my right leg following the second surgery. If surgery is not well followed-up by those able to follow up appropriately there is a risk that the surgeon's skill and the work of the surgical team is wasted
