He is a lovely person who genuinely seems to care about his patients. He always asks me how I’m doing and listens to any concerns I may have. I would happily recommend him to anyone

Mr Ismail is a genuinely lovely, caring consultant. He was patient with me and took time to explain everything with me and made sure I was reassured before I left. All testing was very thorough.

Mr Wael Ismail put me at ease straight away and explained everything very clearly to me. I was very nervous but that stopped once he explained everything to me. I would definitely recommend him

Profile

I am a Consultant Breast Surgeon with my private practice based primarily at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, Essex, and also Spire London East private hospital in Redbridge. I aim to deliver high quality breast care and excellent results to both my private and NHS patients.

My breast service is built on a strong multidisciplinary ethos and follows all guidelines and evidence-based protocols for breast cancer treatment. I am also an accredited breast screening surgeon and operate on women who have no breast cancer symptoms and whose cancer has been detected during routine mammography screening. For these patients, I use the wire localisation technique to confirm diagnosis and plan treatment. In addition to the wire localisation technique, I offer the following surgical treatments at Spire Hartswood and Spire London East Hospitals: blue dye sentinel node biopsy (SLNB) to determine spread of cancer to the lymph system, with minimum lymph node removal, axillary clearance of lymph nodes, wide local excision of breast lump, mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy and mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction performed in conjunction with a specialist plastic surgeon. Reconstruction options include implants, implant plus latissimus dorsi (LD) flap, and deep inferior epigastric pedicle (DIEP) flap as appropriate.

Patients with breast symptoms who come to my Monday evening private breast clinic at Spire Hartswood can normally have investigations (mammography, breast ultrasound, fine needle aspiration and/or core biopsy) on the same evening.

Both hospitals' specialist breast care nurses support all private breast patients and treatment planning is done by a multi-disciplinary team including surgeon, oncologist, radiologist and pathologist before and after surgery.

I operate on more than 200 women with breast cancer every year.
