When I crashed whilst riding my bike and broke my collar bone last September, the NHS was unable to find me a bed, even though thay said I needed an operation to stabilise my badly displaced fracture. Fortunately I'm privately insured through my employer (Spire St Anthony's Hospital) and was given Mr Patel's name by the consultant at Kings College fracture clinic. Mr Patel was contacted by St. Anthonys on my behalf and he quickly rang me personally and offered to come to the Hospital that Sunday evening and examine me. On examination he agreed with what the fracture clinic consultant had said and said he could do the operation the following Tuesday. I was admitted Two days later, had the operation and was discharged the following day. The operation was a complete success, and Mr Patel made sure I was saw him for follow ups (5 in total) until the X-rays showed the bone was 100% healed, even transferring me to his NHS list when my private insurance limit was reached. He used a tape instead of pins and plate which meant I don't have any residual metal work in place, or need another op. to remove it. I am now back in full training for Triathlon, with no residual problems from the fracture, unlike several other fellow club members who have broken their collar bones but had sub standard treatment with poor outcomes.
