In mid-2013 incidental finding of end stage arthritis (R) hip. Referred to Mr Kane. At first consultation he got straight to the point and advised hip replacement. He used the on-screen Xrays to show me the extent of arthritis and pointed out the pros and cons and also directed me to the NHS Choices site to view his success record. He advised me on certains movements and physical activities I would be wise to avoid. Pre-op consultation. Mr Kane took me through the operation process, gave me plenty of time to ask questions and read the Consent Form prior to signing it. At not time did I feel hurried. He reminded me again of the movements and activities I should not do. Day of operation Feb 2014: Mr Kane marked the area himself and allowed me time for last minute questions. His anaesthetist saw me also to let me know I would be having a GA as I had had previous back surgery. Mr Kane's SHO also checked re adverse reactions to drugs. Operation complete success, post op Mr Kane checked on me and left instructions to his team re mobilising, medical stockings and physio. I was amazed - all the pain had gone! Post-op 3 month Consultation: Again Mr Kane took me through the Do's and Don'ts of my new hip and gave me plenty of time to ask questions. 1 year post-op consultation: Mr Kane delighted with my progress - completely back to normal. At each stage I had medical questionnaires to complete to outline degree of pain, lack of mobility, lifestyle restrictions etc. In summary: I found Mr Kane to be courteous, patient, a dedicated and gifted orthopaedic surgeon with the welfare and care of his patient paramount. I have no hesitation in recommending him to friends, family and acquaintances or seeing him again should the need arise. I am delighted with my new hip.
