I had been undergoing chemotherapy under the NHS for the treatment of liver cancer, following an earlier operation for bowel cancer, when I decided to seek a second opinion. I was referred to Thomas Satyadas to discuss the possibility of a liver re-section. He listened carefully to my medical history before advising that he could operate to remove the 10 tumours. He then went through the potential risks of the operation, heightened by my suffering from haemochromatosis, in considerable detail and indicated that he would only proceed subject to me passing a fitness test and undergoing a stress test on my heart. During the consultation he also identified that I had a ruptured hernia which he would be able to operate on at the same time. The operations on my liver and hernia were both successful, which are testament to Mr Satyadas's skills as a surgeon, but what I also came to appreciate are his total dedication, humour and compassion for his patients.
