I was extremely lucky to be passed into the care of Simon Smith when told I had breast cancer which had spread to my lymph glands 10 years ago (Professor Davidson, Oncologist was absolutely brilliant and now retired as I understand but I must mention him here as his advice still stays with me). Simon Smith took the time to carefully explain my diagnosis and the options I could choose. He always gave me time to digest my choices and encouraged me to ask questions. In the years I spent with the amazing team at the Breast Care Unit, Simon Smith made sure I chose the right option for reconstruction for me by checking my lifestyle and letting me choose. Before an operation he was there with a jolly smile and a chat - checking I knew what was to come; then afterwards he checked I was ok. He would tell the nurses on a ward round that I needed to be sitting up after recovery as my BP gets too low as he genuinely gets to know his patients. He had time for my worried mother, he asked after my family and he remembered items in my life which showed he cared. I'd trust Mr Smith 100% with any surgery and the truest validation of my recommendation is the way his team respect and have a great rapport with him. I feel bad it's taken me so many years to write this but hope it helps anyone else going through surgery choices x
