Mr Smith totally focussed on me and gave me the utmost confidence in his ability to rid me of this cancer. He was completely supportive and gave me all the time I needed to discuss any problems I had. His whole team made me feel like an individual and not just a hospital number. I originally had breast cancer 12 years ago, and Mr Smith was one of the surgeons who operated on me then. I was made to feel like royalty then and nothing was too much trouble. When the cancer returned this year he was (luckily for me) still working at Broomfield Hospital and it was like meeting an 'old friend', and I, once again, had the utmost confidence in him. He assured me that everything had moved on since the first time I had cancer, and it really has. It was so different, not 5 days in hospital just in and out in one day. My whole recovery was so much quicker, and it has made it so much easier just to get on with normal life. In 2005 I had a mastectomy and reconstruction, plus removal of most of my lymph nodes. Apart from 5 years of Tamoxifen and regular consultations, that was it, and I never thought I couldn't just continue with life as normal. The actual reconstruction was very good, and whenever I have mammograms, the Radiologist asks who operated just in case they ever need one! This year I have had two operations to remove a lump plus a couple more lymph nodes, followed by Radiotherapy and 5 years of Letrozole. Once again, I feel confident that's it, and it is really due to the excellent treatment and support I have had that I feel this way. Mr Smith and his team are amazing and I can't speak highly enough of their professionalism and support, it is second to none and has helped immensely in my recovery. I hope your recovery is as good as mine has been and that you, too, can feel this is just a 'blip' and confidently move forward and enjoy your life.
