From the outset Dr Jain was open and clear about my condition and prognosis. He talked through my options so I had all the facts to hand to make a clear and informed decision. I was living daily with server knee pain and it was obvious to me that I required a TKR. This was my second knee replacement, having the first back in 2019. I was young for the surgery at 48 but Dr Jain was supportive and answered all my questions. The surgery went ahead on the 18 March. The experience from booking in on the day of the surgery and the surgery it’s self was exceptional. The care and compassion I received from the anaesthetists to the recovery team through to the aftercare from the nurses was second to none. After the surgery, the physio came round and supported me through the exercises that is required after knee surgery. The pain you feel after surgery is server, and you first question yourself, “was it worth it” I can say now, yes it is. The pain last for a while but over the weeks you will feel it diminishing. You have to listen to Dr Jain and the pysio about completing your exercise. It will be painful every time you do these and you question, is this helping. Without regular exercise the knee will not function correctly and you will have other pain issues to deal with. There is a fine line between pushing yourself and doing to much. But the exercise are a key component of recovery. After my first TKR I went back to being able to run and play netball again. I hope to do the same this time.
