In August 2016 my GP referred me to Ashford physiotherapy department for pain in both of my lower arms. When treatment commenced one month later my left arm had become very painful. Three physio sessions later in December, I had to visit my GP surgery for pain relief. One of the doctors examined me and decided that I should be referred to the orthopaedic department at Ashford. I had one further physio session at which time it was thought that I might have a tendon problem. Acupuncture treatment was proposed to assist with pain relief. On 29th December I attended orthopaedics and was sent for an x-ray. I returned to the same GP two weeks later for more pain relief. The x-ray report had requested an ultrasound test which had not been set up. She arranged urgent action on this while I waited. Ultrasound followed within two days and five days later I was called to see Mr. Rohit Gupta at his upper limb clinic. He decided that I needed an MRI scan. During this time I was under both physiotherapy and orthopaedic departments. I was subsequently discharged from physio. Acupuncture was cancelled. The acupuncture was offered with the best of intentions, but without the benefit of the GP intervention, the problem with my arm may not have been realised for some time. I am grateful to that doctor for what she did on my behalf. During my meeting with Mr. Gupta on 9th February I was told that the MRI scan showed a Left Distal Biceps Tendon Rupture. At that time Mr. Gupta arranged for x-rays and an MRI scan on my right arm, should a similar problem be developing. Mr. Gupta performed a repair procedure on 7th March 2017 at St. Peter's hospital. I wore a plaster cast and later an arm brace for six weeks in total. Physiotherapy followed and is ongoing. The findings regarding my right arm indicated a non-serious condition. On 15th June I saw Mr. Gupta for a review. I am now pain free and able to rotate my left hand anti-clockwise to a much greater degree than possible prior to surgery. Physiotherapy is ongoing for a while. The service I have received from Mr. Gupta and his team has been exemplary. I was fully informed on every step of the way. Consequently, at the point of surgery I was entirely confident of being in safe hands. My grateful thanks are extended to all responsible for a successful outcome.
