I have experienced care from Mr Milligan through his day clinic and as a surgery patient. I think it is fair to say the journey women go through receiving a breast cancer diagnosis presents with different emotions and I think Mr Milligan is appropriately responsive to me as the patient and my husband supporting me. The clinic can be very busy which can feel rushed (not the fault of the care team at all, just shows how many patients they support) and there is a lot of information to take in. He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of care from diagnosis, treatment options and future possibilities. When I experienced his care through surgery, he was really caring, helpful and reassuring, I could not have asked for better at an obviously worrying time. The cosmetic results from the surgery were amazing, very different to what I expected but shows a great level of skill and the aftercare was excellent. Since the surgery, I have felt able to ask many questions about my diagnosis, my potential future and other questions about my medical history and he has went above and beyond to provide information and reassurance. I guess the only comment I would have is that some of the discussion is very medical and while it is medically true that I no longer have a breast, I think women would just want to have some sensitivity around that and maintain that once they leave the clinic, they are still women, mothers, wives etc despite what may have happened. It is a tricky balance between the right level of compassionate care and ensuring people receive the right medical information within the time constraints and resources that doctors/nurses and care staff have. Overall, I think Mr Milligan has a really good balance of both and the more you get to know someone, the more tailored and efficient the care becomes. I am so grateful for all that he has done for me and my family.
