The care I have received from Mr Milligan has been outstanding. From my first consultation with him I felt confident that I was in good hands. He has an amazing ability of making people feel at ease. He is empathic and really seemed to understand how I was feeling. Mr Milligan ensured I was fully informed all the way through my treatment and was honest when I asked for his opinion. I never felt overwhelmed with information but if I asked questions he would take the time to answer them. He involved me in all decisions relating to my care and explained all of the options so that I felt I was making an informed decision. I have had two operations performed by Mr Milligan and the cosmetic results have exceeded my expectations. His after care has been at the same exceptional level. He goes above and beyond what is expected, even taking the time to call me himself when he received my results rather than leaving me to wait a further agonising week. I will be forever grateful for the care and compassion he showed me in a very worrying time.

In my first meeting with Mr Milligan he gave me a professional early diagnosis and all my follow up appointments up to and including my operation both my hubby and I valued his honest opinion. The day of my operation Mr Milligan explained the procedure even though he had discussed this in great detail in an earlier appointment however this made me feel at ease prior to my operation. I have had a few small concerns since my operation and when I contacted my breast nurse Michelle to discuss them she would speak to Mr Milligan and contact me with a response. They are a great team my after care has been exceptional.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2018 following a routine mammogram . The treatment I received at Queen Elizabeth Gateshead was and continues to be truly exceptional . My consultant Robert Milligan is not only a gifted and talented surgeon but a compassionate empathetic human being . Robert Milligan instills confidence in both his patients and family members . Despite the incredible pressure on the NHS , Robert Milligan gives each and every patient the priceless gift of “ time” . Time to absorb; time to understand , time to question ; time to be a part of the process . Robert Milligan has the unique ability to treat and understand the person rather than focus solely upon the “tumour “ . Your psychological, emotional welfare and the impact of surgery is taken into consideration . RM will go to great lengths to ensure patients understand complex and innovative surgical procedures with use of diagrams and non surgical references thus helping to remove the mystery and fear of the surgical procedures Nobody anticipates being diagnosed with cancer but having received my diagnosis I feel incredibly blessed to have been treated at the Queen Elizabeth. Hospital by Robert Milligan and his equally talented team all of whom exhibit in abundance RM’s commitment , dedication and empathy
